About Ashley

Well that is an existential question if I ever heard one, but let’s give it a whirl! (Truth be told ‘about me’ sections always make me sweat a little, because how do you adequately convey yourself in a few photos and sentences?)

I enjoy traveling (obviously!) and experiencing new places. This usually involves food, drinks, and lots of fun adventures. In my opinion, the perfect day of travel involves a great meal followed by getting a little lost exploring a city. While not traveling I work full time in Public Affairs and still enjoy food, drinks, and lots of adventures on a local scale (primarily in San Diego, Riverside, and Los Angeles counties). I also love live music, graphic design, random humor, general nerd-ery, and politics.

Other vital stats…

Location: California
Credentials: BA in Political Science, currently working on my Masters of Public Policy (MPP)

To sum it up…

My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some humor, and some style.

Two names you may hear quite frequently on the blog are Charles and Zora. Charles has been my partner in crime for the past ten years. He is a Swiss German who plays upright bass in a Rockabilly band, brews beer, and hand crafts some amazing things in his spare time. Computer programmer by day, top chef by night.

We got married on a UNESCO World Heritage site, a 16th century fort called El Castillo San Felipe del Morro in Puerto Rico. Wedding planning isn’t stressful enough, so why not plan it somewhere I had never been before?  It was worth it, Puerto Rico holds a very special place in our hearts.

Completing our family of three is an adopted German Shepard/Chinese Shar Pei/Jack Russel mix (yes you read that right) named Zora who runs our lives.  She’s pretty great and loves exploring, so we don’t mind!

I started this blog to record my stories, photos, and memories for myself, but it also turned into a wonderful place to meet like minded travelers and human beings, as well as share my tips and favorite travel finds.

What is my travel style?  Definitely casual!  We’ve never lived abroad, we work full time jobs, we’ve really only been to a small percentage of the world, but we still like to getaway as much as possible even if it is in our own backyard. Adventures can be big and small and this is where I capture all of them. I aim to be real, direct, and show you how to make the most of your precious vacation time!
