Hi, I’m Ashley.

^This photo is completely unrelated to this post, except for the fact that it is MEEEEE and this post is all about MEEEEEE.  Are you even ready for that!? I promise more Switzerland and Germany goodness is coming soon!

So full disclosure, I saw these questions on Cup of Jo and immediately wanted to answer them.  I know I don’t delve too deeply very often into things ‘about me’ {maybe like once}, so I thought this might be fun.

Would your rather make more money or get more vacation time?
This is a tough one.  Vacation time is so hard to come by!  That being said, I think I will go with more money.  I think that allows you to invest your time into what you love, save, and retire early with more travel money!

Would you rather meet your ancestors or your great-grandchildren?

Ancestors.  I’d love to know where I come from and meet those people face to face.  And then hopefully my great-grandchildren will also choose to meet their ancestors and it will be a win win. 😉
Would you rather be lost in a desert or at sea?
Sea.  But let’s be honest… I am picturing the best of both worlds being stranded on a deserted island.  And by deserted island I basically just mean a secluded beach in Puerto Rico.  With a mojito.  I rather not be lost at all, really.

Would you rather be able to eat anything you wanted forever or get rid of all your fears?

Fears are such terrible, soul crushing things, they keep us from living our lives! I definitely would pick losing my fears!

Would you rather take a vacation to a city or the beach?

Can I make the great compromise and just pick Barcelona???  That is definitely high on my travel radar.  Gosh, there are so many wonderful things about city and beach vacations.  As you see on this blog, I am no stranger to either.  Alas, if I had to choose I would opt for city.  I love big cities.  I love the energy, I love the excitement, and most importantly I love the buzz, the constant motion.

Would you rather be an amazing cook or an amazing dancer?

Hahaha, I am so very far from either of these things.  I am literally the least coordinated person you’ve ever met.  My husband is truly an amazing cook, so I have no real aspirations there, but it would be nice to be able to pitch in more, so let’s go with the cooking.  It seems more practical than dancing at this point in my life.  Until then, I will hold strong with the amazing grilled cheese sandwiches I turn out and my token Thriller dance moves.

Would you rather always be a little too hot or a little too cold?
A little too cold.  I’m all about sweaters and hot chocolate, things I get to enjoy approximately one day a year in these parts.  Oh the irony of living in inland Southern California…
^Suprise, you mean you don’t photobomb your wedding photographer’s artful shot of your wedding gown?  This leads me to other fun facts about me….
*I majored in political science (and actually use it at my real life job!), I am kind of a real life Leslie Knope, or at least I am told that often and have decided to embrace it!  So basically just picture that as my personality.
^Seems about right.  My drinking game nights ARE fun!  I mean, we have a bar in our house, remember!?  No dull moments tolerated!
*I am an NPR nut.  I am not sure how this happened, but it was probably inevitable.
*I like intellectual conversations, but I am just as quick to be goofy and lighten up the situation.  I love making people laugh.
*I love getting lost in new places.  I try to stay in control of everyday things, so nothing is more freeing to me when traveling than dropping everything and seeing what happens in a new city.  It is the one time I can be truly spontaneous.
*I used to think my biggest pet peeve was disorganized queuing/line systems, but I have to add a new one… I am annoyed that so many people accept information/news/articles given to them without any question.  When did so many people become such passive consumers of information?  I think the best thing you can learn is how to be analytical, how to research for yourself, and how to question.
*I am fortunate enough to have met one of my great idols, Ray Bradbury. He told me to write something everyday. Just to keep writing. I’ve listened.
*As a child I thought that if I sang loudly enough when my Mom went through the bank window, I would be discovered by the teller as the next great singing talent. I at least thought they would comment on how talented I was.  Surprisingly, neither ever happened.  (I feel like this sort of sums up my personality in a nutshell…)

*As a con, I can tend to over analyze things, wonder if I handled things wrong, said too much, talked too much, etc.  As such, this quote has become one of my favorites to keep in mind…

I must learn to love the fool in me–the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and breaks promises, laughs and cries. It alone protects me against that utterly self-controlled, masterful tyrant whom I also harbor and who would rob me of my human aliveness, humility, and dignity but for my Fool.
Theodore I. Rubin

Hope you enjoyed this peak into my brain (heaven help us all!)

I'm sure you will make it to Barcelona if it's on your list!! I'm torn between beach and city vacations too. They both have their perks but if I had to say right now it would be beach. City vacations are fun but exhausting.

haha a deserted beach with a mojito. Love it, that would be my answer too! I love that you're a real life Knope, that's awesome. She rocks

I enjoyed reading this very much. Great answer with choosing more money. I like what you said how with money, we'll be able to do things that we love, save and retire leading to more vacations. Ah, Barcelona has been a very elusive city to me. I hope you get to visit it in the near future.

Love this! So fun to get to know a little more about you — it's obvious that you have a fabulous personality with a great balance of both intellect and goofiness. :)

And YES to being annoyed with people who believe everything they read (and then repost it on FB or whatever)… Also, that story about you singing in order to try to impress a bank teller cracks me up!
